Raw Chocolate Mousse


This is one of those super simple recipes that wins just about everyone over. It’s raw, vegan, and loaded with good fats (but don’t let the good-for-you factor trick you, this baby is bursting with chocolatey goodness.) If you’re a fan of dark chocolate, then you’ll definitely be in heaven tucking in a bowl of this mousse.


2 Medium-Large Avocados

1/4 cup Coconut Oil (in a “soft butter” state)

3/4 cup Raw Cacao Powder

1/4 cup Agave (or honey/maple syrup)*

1/4tsp Pink Himalayan Salt

1tsp Vanilla Extract

1/4 -1/3 cup Water


Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth (you may have to stop the blender to scrape down the sides a few times).

Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator (I love this chilled because it hardens considerably and becomes more fudge-like.) Add your favourite fresh fruit and seeds or enjoy it on its own. Just be warned, this mousse is super rich so while your first instinct may be to eat a whole bowl of it, you’ll likely be satisfied after just 2-3 tablespoons. Fortunately, it keeps very well in the fridge and makes for a perfect pick-me up throughout the day!


*Note: I don’t use sweeteners is many things these days so I don’t beat myself up over the 1/4cup of agave in this, especially since I eat just a few spoonfuls at a time and a batch of it is likely to last me a week or so. If you’re worried about the sugar content, though, you can substitute 1.5 bananas for one of the avocados and reduce the amount of agave you use. Another option is to substitute stevia to taste.
